WOMANDLA

“WOMANDLA” is advertised as a theatre play with music, following the life's of eight black women who find themselves in prison. But it's a lot more than that. It creates a portrait of the lives of these women that's so observant and informed; it is your everyday women story with a strong jolt of reality. The play will surprise and moved you: if you expect a routine stage play you will be amazed at how much you start to care about the characters. But what makes the play special is the way it shows the motivations of these women, whose lives are put to a definite holt by incarceration. It doesn't justify violence as a form of self defense, but it makes a convincing case for the mixture of desperation, impulsiveness and thrill-seeking that catapults its characters from the normal sister and housewife to maximum security
