The Soweto 76 Walkathon is a vibrant community movement inspired by the courage, unity and determination of the youth of 1976. Bringing together learners, families, schools, runners, community organisations, entrepreneurs and the wider Soweto community, the event creates a space where we can connect, have fun, get active and shine a light on issues affecting young people today.

🏃 5KM WALK – Bring your family, friends and community and walk together.

🏃‍♀️ 5KM RUN – Challenge yourself, run with your crew and experience the energy of the day.

🧘 YOGA & WELLNESS – Take a moment to breathe, stretch and recharge.

🎤 PANEL TALKS & YOUTH ENGAGEMENTS – Meaningful conversations around issues affecting our communities and young people, including bullying, gangsterism, substance abuse, gender-based violence, teenage pregnancy, exploitation and other challenges facing youth.

♟️ CHESS & SPORTING ACTIVITIES – Encouraging healthy competition, discipline, teamwork and positive youth participation.

🛍️ LOCAL BRANDS, EXHIBITORS & ENTREPRENEURS – Discover local businesses, products, services and community-driven initiatives.

The Soweto 76 Walkathon is part of an ongoing school and community engagement campaign that seeks to inspire young people to speak up, participate, make positive choices and become active contributors to their communities.

Inspired by the spirit of 1976, we are creating a platform for today's generation to walk for purpose, run with passion, connect with one another and stand together for safer, stronger and empowered communities.
