Rallycross @ Killarney

RALLYCROSSERS REV UP FOR SUMMER FUN

About this event

The last round of Rallycross for 2022 at Killarney on the part tar, part gravel WRX course will be an all-day Super Special from 9:00pm to 6:00pm on Tuesday 27 December, when the rallycrossers and drifters get the west side of the circuit to themselves for a whole day of non-stop action – and you’re invited!

Spectator tickets – from Computicket or at the gate - cost R100 for adults, R40 for scholars under 16 and free for children under 12. Western Province Motor Club members also get in free on production of their membership book at the gate on entry.

But wait – there’s more: The same ticket also gets you in to watch StreetFest, with MSA Drag Racing and an IASCA Sound-Off in the Joubert Pits at the same time, at no extra cost.

Rallycross combines the best aspects of rallying, drifting and oval track in one exciting, high-octane spectacle, with short four or six-lap sessions on a purpose-built, part-tarmac, part dirt-track circuit in a stadium-type arena that includes a huge jump and a lot of sideways action – and the good news for spectators is that you can sit anywhere on the stands and see almost the whole circuit.

As a bonus, if you purchase a ticket to the Rallycross, you can also watch the Drag Testing and Street2Strip event on the Killarney Drag Strip from 11:00am to 4:00pm on the same day, at no extra cost.

Bring the whole family; there are children’s play areas on on site and cold drinks and delicious light meals – including halaal - are available from food vendors right next to the pits; you are also welcome to bring your cooler box and gazebo, light up your skottelbraai and make a day of it.

The programme features classes for four-cylinder cars of up to two litres and 130kW, and six-cylinder cars of up to 168kW, while the BMWs of the E36 Cup have their own class. But the big dogs are the cars in the open category, where almost anything goes, including genuine rally cars.

There are also Ladies Races, and Class D races on an all-tar circuit for drivers who want to get in on the action but don’t want to risk their cars on the dirt sections of the WRX layout. There also slots available at a nominal fee for passenger rides in E36 Cup cars and some rallycross cars that have passenger seats – bring a helmet and experience Killarney’s World Rallycross circuit first-hand!

Or you can enter the races yourself - it’s the most fun you have with your clothes on! No roll cage is required for street cars entering the all-tar Class D races.

The entry fee is the same for all classes: R450 per car/driver combination, which includes the driver and TWO crew members; cars will be required to pass a vehicle safety check and all drivers and passengers are required to wear long sleeves, long trousers, closed shoes and a crash helmet. Drivers must hold a minimum of either a South African driving licence or an MSA Circuit Racing licence.

There will be a bring and braai at the end of the day with ice-cold beverages on sale (rallycross is thirsty work!) and fun awards for participants.
